One of the main advantages of catamarans is their shallow draft which allows you to get very close to a beach or anchor in shallow areas. The catamarans offer lots of space, making them a perfect choice for a larger group of people or families. They are noticeably more stable than a sailboat, especially at downwind or stationary speeds. They flap less but upwind they could be annoying especially for small ones.
For the most part they are considered super comfortable so much so that they are on the all-time list of favorite boats for anyone who suffers from seasickness! However, catamarans also have their disadvantages: the width can make it difficult to find space at a marina. A crowded anchorage can also pose a challenge. Renting a catamaran is more expensive, but the extra space allows more friends to split the costs.
